The cosmic con artist was arrested in June and convicted of statutory rape after the parents of a 14-year-old girl complained he had promised the teen a trip in his spaceship if she had sex with him. But for several years before that, he had preyed upon the young - and the stupid - to enjoy their sexual favors, police say.
"He was just so cute," said 23-year-old secretary Andrea Durano, a typical victim.
"He was all green and everything and I was just so excited to be with a real space alien."
The 43-year-old man now faces three additional counts of statutory rape and could be sentenced to up to 40 years in prison, according to police.
"He had girlfriends of all ages, but he really scored with the naive ones and the young ones because they were the most likely to believe his story," said police detective Ignacio de Palma.
"They honestly thought that if they pleased him, he would take them on trips to distant planets."
Camargo in real life was a lonely bachelor who had wooed but lost countless girls. In desperation, he had thought up the idea of fooling women into being his lovers.
The man designed himself a spacesuit out of glittery green cloth and made a face mask out of flesh-like green plastic. Then he donned his outfit and lurked in a suburban park, surprising his victims on lonely pathways.
"He told me that I had discovered his secret mission to Earth and that it was very important that I not betray him," said another victim, Maria Delgado, 18. "He said he was an observer from the planet Zonda, sent here to try to prevent the world from involvement in a terrifying war.
"He said he had his headquarters nearby and said he'd let me be one of his assistants.
"After a while he began suggesting we have sex and promising to take me for a ride in outer space. I just thought it would be so neat. I believed he really meant it, so I made love to him. He had a great line and I took it hook, line and sinker," she said.
Police say they can prove Camargo bedded down at least 25 young women, ranging in age from 13 to 34, and they suspect he was involved with dozens more.
