Father Georges Brun said the creature that took over the body of schoolboy Giles Barrat "looked like a floating blue brain" but had no more substance than smoke or mist.
There was no indication that the alien was evil or malicious. But it seemed to be hurting the boy, whether it intended to or not.
"It was a terrifying experience," Father Brun told reporters. "The alien had the child in a death grip. Only the power of the Lord made it let go."
The strange drama unfolded when Christine and Michael Barrat, the boy's parents, told Father Brun that their normally well-behaved son "had suddenly gotten out of control." The priest agreed to visit the family's home - and found the child laughing hysterically with his hand on the burner of a hot stove.
"His flesh was smoking and burning but it didn't seem to bother him a bit," said Father Brun. "When he saw me he lifted his hand and levitated straight up to the ceiling.
"He was saying something in a strange language that I didn't understand. I didn't know what to do, so I held a crucifix in front of me and began to pray.
"When I did that the boy fell to the floor and got rigid as a board. He remained motionless as the blue brain emerged from his chest and began to hover in the room."
Father Brun said that he and the boy's parents found themselves paralyzed as soon as the brain appeared. The thing reportedly hesitated, then croaked: "No harm. Boy needed. Go now." Then it sparkled and disappeared.
"The boy's burned hand healed right before our eyes," said Father Brun. "He had absolutely no recollection of the alien or of being possessed."
UFO researcher Charles Pretet called the possession "a most unusual incident" and the first case in which "the alien appeared to witnesses and tried to explain himself."
