And far from taking the threat lightly, President Bill Clinton and the Pentagon are working around the clock to come up with a plan to thwart the invasion, although intelligence sources privately confirm that we are "facing a technology that is light-years beyond our own."
Nobody is speaking for the record -- the threat of world panic is too high.
But White House sources agree with what President Clinton allegedly told Russia's Boris Yeltsin in an emergency call over the hotline: "Mankind and Earth are in deep and desperate trouble. This is one challenge we must meet -- or else."
"Mankind is standing at the crossroads, that much is clear," declared Dr. Paul Maslenz, an astrophysicist who obtained photographs of the alien in the company of CIA agents shortly after their arrival in Washington.
"From what my sources tell me, the extraterrestrial invasion is imminent and, frighteningly, if the captured alien is representative of his race, we are being confronted by an enemy of enormous intelligence and almost incomprehensible viciousness.
"This, coupled with a technology advanced enough to bring them to Earth from a civilization billions of miles away, means they might very well prove to be an unstoppable force.
"If I were a religious man -- and I'm not -- I would be down on my knees praying every day for a miracle to stop this peril.
"As it stands, I'm a scientist. And instead of praying, I am calling on President Clinton and the United Nations to summon the forces necessary to repel these invaders from outer space."
The terrifying news came to light on August 3, when federal authorities captured the extraterrestrial while investigating a UFO landing at an unspecified site in eastern Missouri.
The UFO itself was gone by the time agents arrived at the scene. But a sweep of the area produced a single extraterrestrial who was hiding behind an abandoned refrigerator approximately one-half mile from the landing site.
According to sources, the creature stands 6-feet, 2-inches tall and has a large, bulbous head with black, almond-shaped eyes.
Its skin is gray. And even though it is not wearing clothes, there are no genitals or body features to be seen. It was taken to Washington aboard a CIA jet about two hours after it was captured. Once there, agents moved it to a series of so-called "safe houses" before the interrogation began.
Specifics aren't available at this time. But sources confirmed that the extraterrestrial is extremely intelligent, with an estimated I.Q. in the 300 range, and "is as cold and calculating a monster as you could ever imagine."
"Nobody's talking specifics, but the alien apparently speaks English fluently and had no trouble communicating with the CIA," said Dr. Maslenz. "At first, it refused to talk.
"But after a lengthy interrogation, the creature 'cracked' -- and spoke openly about the invasion. It actually gave a date -- November 27 -- for the attack and made no bones about the fact that its comrades want our natural resources and intend to enslave mankind as their work force.
"One source suggested that these creatures hold humans in deep contempt, and think no more highly of us than we think of worms. Maybe they figure they can tell us anything and everything about their plans and we still won't be able to do anything about it. Unfortunately, they might be right."
The alien reportedly remains incarcerated at an undisclosed location in Washington and it remains unclear what its fate will be.
Meanwhile, President Clinton is conferring with key world leaders on a daily basis while deciding the best way to defend Earth from attack.
